Unlike cardio exercises, which focus on increasing your heart rate and improving your aerobic fitness, strength training focuses on building muscular strength and endurance by challenging your muscles to work harder than they typically would.
A common misconception of strength training is that it is only beneficial for those wanting to body build. This form of training can mean anything from using your own body weight in the form of squats and push-ups to using moderate weights such as dumbbells.
How does strength training work?
The principle behind strength training involves progressive overload, meaning gradually increasing the amount of resistance your muscles work against over time. Lifting weights or completing resistance exercises causes tiny micro-tears to form in your muscles. During recovery, these repair and grow your muscles. This action is only beneficial when you allow your body to recover from exercising & overexertion without rest can lead to injury and can have negative effects on your health and wellbeing.

4. Integrate into workouts - Aim for balanced workouts, combining cardio exercises for your aerobic health, strength training for muscular growth and flexibility/mobility.
