After a fire in 1791 at Richmond House in Whitehall, London, James Wyatt added two great wings to showcase the saved collection at Goodwood. To give unity to the two new wings, Wyatt added copper-domed turrets framing each façade.

It wouldn’t be Goodwood Revival without an early morning dawn patrol flypast. Those arriving early can enjoy a morning coffee as magnificent historic aircraft sweep overhead to open the event. Gates open to the public at 0830hrs and at 0730hrs for those who are part of the Goodwood Road Racing Club.
The Freddie March Spirit of Aviation party is a must-attend event that starts the Revival weekend. Members can enjoy an exclusive preview of the aircraft on display and get close to these magnificent flying machines without the crowds, whilst sipping Champagne and eating a delicious selection of food.
The Freddie March Spirit of Aviation display saw an incredible line-up of aircraft this year. 1st place was the 1947 Le Vier Cosmic Wind presented by Peter Kynsey. 2nd Place was the 1955 Cessna 170B presented by Philippe Chatelet & Francois Rallet. 3rd Place was the 1944 DH89A Dragon Rapide 6 presented by David Starkey & Ben Cox.
A new prize in 2021 honoured a much-missed member of the team here at Goodwood. Rob Wildeboer worked in our aviation business for 35 years, beginning as a YTS apprentice and rising to be MD of the aviation business and Flying School Manager. Rob was instrumental in establishing and curating the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation display. Each year The Rob Wildeboer Cup will be awarded to the best restoration of an aircraft in the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation, as chosen by his colleagues. A fitting tribute to Rob’s lifelong passion for engineering. The 2026 winner of the Rob Wildeboer Cup for best restoration was awarded to 1943 Boeing Stearman E75 presented by Andreas Maron.

Freddie March, Duke of Richmond's grandfather, has a fascinating history mostly revolving around the worlds of motor racing and aviation. The Freddie March Spirit of Aviation seeks to celebrate his connection with flight, whilst also giving a nod towards Goodwood Motor Circuit's period as RAF Westhampnett during the Second World War.
