Outsider NAQEEB (33/1) ridden by Ryan Sexton won his first race in two years, taking Autumn Racing’s Virgin Bet Foundation Stakes Listed Race at Goodwood Racecourse.
The Julie Camacho northern trained Naqeeb, owned by Mr Niall O’Keeffe, held off its challengers under a strong ride from Sexton, with Ancient Wisdom placing second and favourite Saddadd finishing in third.
Jockey, Ryan Sexton, said: “He seems to really enjoy it here at Goodwood. I had such an easy time in front, I can do everything I want and had one to aim at turning into the straight, round here he loves it. When you go down that hill he grabs a hold of the bit.”
“He stays well, but he probably is a bit too keen in those further trips. He’s a horse that just gallops out and I was questioning the ground, but it dried up enough today. He deserves it, he’s been running really well this year. It’s nice to get a win on the board for him and for Niall.”
