Video: This 600PS Megane is a 4WD hillclimb muncher
Bretagne may be better known for its rugged coastline and delectable cuisine, but within the Celtic peninsula lies a network of incredible, twisting, gradient roads. And where there’s roads such as these, there’s inevitably a hillclimb or two. And where there’s a hillclimb, there’s bound to be a selection of powerful hill monsters.
Such as this 608PS Renault Megane RS RX, which last season took on the St. Goueno Hillclimb with owner Guerlain Chicherit behind the wheel, performing some blistering runs through the campagne.
The former freestyling champion and owner of the GC Kompetition Rallycross team, Chicherit doesn’t hold back, sending the 608PS hot hatch up the hill with full commitment.
Built by British motorsport group Prodrive, it features a bespoke longitudinally mounted 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, coupled with Prodrive's in-house anti-lag system, and controlled by a Cosworth ECU. In a departure for the Rallycross norm, it features a double wishbone suspension system, in-board brakes and an Xtrac five-speed sequential manual transmission. While slightly out of its World Rallycross Championship comfort zone, it more than proves its metal on the 3.2km run.
