Video: Tackling rally Sweden at ridiculous speeds

There’s something so wrong yet so right about a snowy rally weekend. The idyll of undisturbed snow sheets and the stillness of frozen forest air are eviscerated by firespitting rally monsters and their drivers as they race against the clock.

This is rallying as you remember it, and as we know and love it: highly-strung machinery smashing the limiter and rippling the anti-lag as it scythes through Swedish forest stages. Charging along undulating straights, hitting jumps at full throttle and slicing round swooping curves with drivers steering out of the side window at obscene speed.

The Toyota almost entirely in white would blend in if not for the black studded tyres, the enormous carbon wing and the flashes of Gazoo Racing red in its livery. The Hyundai looks more at home in the air than on the ground, and the Ford Puma looks more comfortable sideways than straight.

Comparatively lower spec cars than top-class WRC Rally1 machines look, if anything, more out of place tackling these stages at such speed with to their close resemblance to their roadgoing counterparts.
