This one’s going to be fun. The 83rd Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport will feature the first ever Phil Hill Cup, and we can’t wait to get these cars out on track for the first time.

With a grid inspired by the great American sportscar races of the mid-1960s, this has the potential to be one of the more dramatic races we’ve ever seen at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Officially, it’s a race for pre-1967 sports and GT racing cars inspired by the 12 Hours of Sebring from 1964-’66. The important thing to note from that is that this will be the most powerful race of the weekend.

Ferrari and Ford were the dominant forces of sportscar racing at that time, as the GT40 was unleashed to overthrow the stranglehold of Ferrari on global endurance racing. Carroll Shelby was also coming to the peak of his powers with the Cobra alongside the arrival of the new Porsche 906.
Expect to see cars of that ilk engaging in ear-splitting combat when they head out onto the Motor Circuit for the Phil Hill Cup.
The most powerful race of Members' Meeting
The Phil Hill Cup
The race is named after the 1961 Formula World Champion, but Phil Hill also enjoyed a great deal of success in sportscar racing. Racing for Ferrari, he won both the Le Mans 24 Hours and the 12 Hours of Sebring three times each and claimed the 24 Hours of Daytona crown with the NART team in 1964.
For most of those victories he raced Ferrari 250 TRs, but he claimed a notable result at Le Mans in 1962, winning at the wheel of the one-off 330 TRI/LM Spyder, and claiming a single class win at Sebring with a Shelby Cobra in 1963.

We’ve seen Cobras and GT40s in action at the Motor Circuit before, but this will be the first time we see them in wheel-wheel combat. We’d suggest it’s probably not worth missing, but you’ve likely figured that out for yourself by now.
This 20-minute ‘60s sportscar showcase will be loud, fast and dramatic, of that we have very little doubt.
