Former World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist bagged honours in a brilliant 15-minute Gerry Marshall Sprint race aboard Nick Jarvis’ Patrick Motors-liveried Rover SD1.
He headed a 1-2-3 finish for V8-engined machines, but Ludovic Lindsay had appeared set for victory for the first ten minutes in his Faberge Ford Capri. Sadly, the Goodwood veteran was forced to retire the car with a broken gearbox.
Man on the move at the start was Jon Minshaw, who somehow blasted into the lead from the third row of the grid, only to retire his Ford Escort RS2000 shortly thereafter. Lindsay and Blomqvist were rarely more than a fraction of a second apart for the first two-thirds of the race, the latter coming under pressure in the dying moments from Camaro Z/28 driver Jack Young who had to settle for second place. Third went to Mustang star Craig Davies who streaked from the back of the grid to claim the final podium position after ousting the well-driven ‘UFO’ BMW 530i of Nick Padmore.
