George Shackleton claimed a convincing win in the Don Parker Trophy contest for half-litre Formula 3 cars.

He blasted into an early lead in his Cooper-Norton perused by the similar car of Chris Wilson, with pole man Tom Waterfield running third in Tom Ross’ Cooper. This became second before they crossed the line for the first time, Shackleton extending his lead to a whisker over three seconds by the third tour. Waterfield was on determined form, though, and closed in on Shackleton with seven minutes left to run on the run to St. Mary’s. The two cars touched, with Waterfield dropping back, only to then drag himself back in contention and take the lead on the run to Woodcote.

Shackleton wasn’t done, though, and he was in the lead again by the time they arrived at St. Mary’s next time around. Third place man Wilson was a further 13 seconds in arrears, but then Shackleton’s car began to slow. He tumbled down the order before retiring which afforded Shackleton an unassailable lead. He led Wilson home by a commanding 17.6 seconds with Angus Frost 25.885 seconds down on the winner in third aboard David Baldock’s Monaco-Norton.
