The Varzi Trophy has been a fixture of two previous Members’ Meetings presented by Audrain Motorsport. Upright racing cars from the early days of Grand Prix and Voiturette racing do battle, drivers displaying their skills with marginal brakes and skinny tyres to help them around the circuit.

The first Varzi Trophy took place at the 75th Members’ Meeting in 2017. Open to French and Italian cars, it was always likely to come down to the dominant forces of Bugatti and Alfa Romeo. It was Julian Majzub who got the early advantage, taking the lead in his Bugatti Type 35.
Michael Gans may have been in with a shout in his Alfa Romeo V8RI, but two spins cost precious time despite a quick recovery on both occasions. In the end, it was Christian Glasel who built an insurmountable lead. He had an off of his own, but had such a margin that he recovered without losing a place and crossed the line in first place.
When the Varzi Trophy returned in 2022 at the 79th Members’ Meeting, it was once again a Bugatti Type 35 that took an early lead. Duncan Pittaway was first around Madgwick, but it wasn’t long until the Alfas found the pace to overcome the lead. Meanwhile, another Bugatti driver, Marshall Bailey, had dramatic mechanical problems; a blown engine made for a large smokescreen. Amidst the spectacle, Patrick Blakeney-Edwards reigned aboard his Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza.
