The Goodwood Motor Circuit rolled back the years at the 83rd Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, marking 50 years since both James Hunt and Barry Sheene became World Champions by gathering a stunning collection of their respective cars and bikes on track for the first ever Members’ Meeting grid walk.

The track was flooded with iconic machines of the 1970s, surrounding those on the grid with classic liveries of the era. Visitors were invited to mingle between a remarkable display that included Hunt’s 1974 Hesketh 308B and his title-winning McLaren M23 alongside the Suzuki RG500s that carried Sheene to glory in 1976 and 1977.

Both Champions, renowned for their charisma and personality as much as their extraordinary talent, these two rockstars defined motorsport for a generation and it was a moving occasion to bring the two celebrations together on the grid.

When it came to the parade, Sheene’s bikes were ridden by his close friend and former teammate Steve Parrish, who described the moment as “very emotional,” underlining just how deeply personal this celebration was. We also saw sons honouring their fathers, as both Freddie Hunt and Freddie Sheene took part in the tribute, riding their dads’ respective cars and bikes.

Freddie Sheene spoke of how moving it was to see so many people still celebrating his father decades on, while Freddie Hunt shared how hearing stories and memories of his father continues to affect him emotionally. Seeing them both remember their fathers in this way was the most heartfelt moment of the 83rd Members’ Meeting weekend, where we celebrated two legendary characters who transcended their disciplines and defined their day.

Tickets for the 84th Members’ Meeting will be available immediately after this year’s event for Members and Fellows of the GRRC. Admission and Grandstand tickets will go on sale on Monday 20th April for Members, and Tuesday 21st April for Fellows.
