Video: Damaged Lotus hunts down V8 Lister Knobbly for amazing final lap battle

If you were looking for some kind of visual representation of determination today, look no further than this final lap battle from the 1998 Revival’s Sussex Trophy.

In front and at the wheel of a Lister Knobbly is Frank Sytner. Behind, however, is the Lotus 15 of Robert Brooks, and as you might be able to spot, there’s something slightly odd about the car’s bodywork… No, the Lotus 15 didn’t come with a downforce-generating rear wing. Instead, a first lap incident with Sytner left the rear end slightly loose, and once the wind got underneath it the only thing stopping it for making a break for the airfield was a latch on the other side of the car. Even with all that drag, however, Brooks kept gaining on the front-runners, at many points the fastest car on track, until he caught up with Sytner. Did he manage the win?
