The inaugural Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy was held in 2020, the year in which the legendary driver sadly passed away. The name was given to what had previously been held as the Kinrara Trophy, which was first run in 2016, this race for closed-cockpit GT cars from before 1963 has seen a variety of cars and driver pairings take victory in its short history.

Tributes were paid to Sir Stirling Moss before the 2020 race got underway, and when it did it was the turn of the cars, the likes of which Moss drove himself, to do him justice. With the top five from qualifying filled entirely by Jaguar E-types, it became a matter of which one would have the edge on Sunday morning. That honour went to the pair of Harvey Stanley and James Cottingham, who moved up from third in Official Practice to get the better of Richard Meins and Rob Huff. Not even a 2.5 second penalty for a pit stop infringement could deny the winners of that historic first occasion.
As if once wasn’t enough, Stanley and Cottingham repeated the feat at the 2021 Revival. Once again racing their Jaguar E-type, the duo was pipped to pole by the father and son team of Martin and Alex Brundle by mere hundredths of a second, and the contest that followed on Friday evening was equally as dramatic. Close racing was had from the off, while the driver swaps provided a fresh hurdle for teams to overcome.
The red flag was brought out after Alex Brundle, running in second, suffered an off that ended his race, but after 25 minutes racing resumed for a final stint in the dusk. It all came down to a two-horse race between Cottingham and Phil Keen, the former taking the lead with two laps to go and holding on for a second consecutive victory.

In 2022, the AC Cobra Dragonsnake of Andrew Jordan and Mike Whitaker shook things up, converting pole position into the race’s first non-E-type win. In fact, no E-type made the podium that year. It was the Harts that made the most progress in their Ferrari 250 SWB, securing second place having started in fifth, though they were perhaps fortunate a five second penalty for speeding didn’t impact their standing. The Ferrari 250 SWB/C of Joe Twyman and Vincent Gaye also rose from seventh to finish third, while the star duo of Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti put on a good showing to take their Jaguar E-type from 15th to sixth.

Franchitti returned for the 2024 Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy, this time with an Aston Martin DB4GT and Jimmie Johnson as his partner. While they qualified in ninth, it looked as though it would be a return to form for the E-types, with Huff and Meins on pole ahead of Chris and Alex Buncombe. When the flag dropped on Saturday evening, Johnson made a remarkable climb up to fourth, then bravely moved around not one but two Cobras at Woodcote to go second. By the time the first lap was completed he was in the lead. There were plenty of other battles going on down the field, and a safety car midway through meant it wasn’t all smooth sailing, but Johnson and Franchitti delivered an excellent victory, and a first in this race for an Aston Martin.

The 2025 race saw another new car join the honours board — the Shelby Cobra of Andrew Jordan and Matthew Holme. Despite taking pole, it was the E-type of Richard Kent that took an early lead, with Cottingham in third sandwiching the Cobra between two Jags. A red flag bunched up the pack, but Kent held on to the lead as the rain typical of that weekend made an appearance. Jordan had a nervous moment but started to recover time, while fortune played into his favour as both E-types retired on the last lap. That promoted the Cobra 260 Franchitti was sharing with Gregor Fiskin into second, with Yelmer Buurman and Alexander van der Lof rounding out the podium spots in their Ferrari 250 SWB/C.
