Brooklands Trophy highlights

If you were asked to get behind the wheel of a car built between 1925 and 1940 there’s a good chance you’d feel slightly intimidated, what with their tall, skinny wheels, confusing controls, relatively basic suspension components and weak brakes. But for the drivers of the Brooklands Trophy that’s all part of the challenge, driving a car to its limit while navigating features and driving quirks that no modern racing driver would expect to encounter. In the 2026 edition of the Brooklands Trophy it was clear everyone was having an entertaining race, but nowhere more so than at the very front of the field. A three-way battle for victory ran from start to finish, with no let-up in the competition until the chequered flag fell.

Brooklands Trophy Official Practice

The spirit of pre-war motorsport came alive during qualifying for the Brooklands Trophy, paying a spectacular homage to the legendary Le Mans heroes of yesteryear. The paddock echoed with the unmistakable, historic rumbling of these 1925–1940s racers as they battled for supremacy on the track. 

Dominating the session, the mighty Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monzas asserted their dominance early on, comfortably securing a formidable front-row lockout by placing first and second on the grid. Leading the charge at the very front was Patrick Blakenley-Edwards, who put on a masterful display of driving in his Alfa Romeo to hold onto the coveted pole position. 

However, he will face an intense challenge when the lights go out, as he is closely followed by last year’s reigning winner in the Frazer Nash TT Replica, who claimed a highly competitive third place on the grid. With such an incredible array of machinery and past champions packed tightly at the front, the stage is officially set for a thrilling, nostalgia-fueled main race.

When is the 2026 Brooklands Trophy? 

These historic goliaths will be unleashed onto the track for the first time for Official Practice on Friday at 11:35. The Brooklands Trophy race will then take place on Saturday morning, with the flag set to drop at 10:55.

Who’s competing in the 2026 Brooklands Trophy?

Some of Goodwood’s finest historic racers will contest the Brooklands Trophy, including Archie Collings, Darren Turner and Patrick Blakeney-Edwards, all vying for the win.

This year’s race also boasts strong family connections, as Annette Mason, wife of Nick Mason, will be competing with her daughters Chloe and Holly. Nick won the race himself back in 2009, so we look forward to seeing if the Masons can deliver another victory in 2026.

Which cars are competing in the 2026 Brooklands Trophy? 

The Brooklands Trophy features a spectacular line-up of pre-war racing machinery. Three separate 1935 Aston Martin Ulsters will be driven by a different member of the Mason family, and they’ll share the track with classics including a sleek 1939 Delahaye 135CS and a commanding 1932 Maserati 8C 3000.
