Last year we saw the all-electric Maserati GranCabrio Folgore fly up the Hill at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, and now this year we’re being treated to its loud, petroleum-fuelled sibling.
While the loss of Maserati’s wondrous V8 engine is a sad one, the resulting mix of all-electric and V6 power for the new generation of GranTurismo and GranCabrio hasn’t meant a compromise in performance. In fact, this is the fastest and most powerful GranCabrio ever. The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 produces 490PS (360kW), enough to send it from 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 186mph.
The GranCabrio flying up the Hill this weekend obviously won’t be getting anywhere near that, but it’s making a lovely noise and has been finished with a gorgeous Verde Giada paint job.
Nothing will beat the legendary MC12 for sheer Hillclimb drama, but we’re fond of the new GranCabrio all the same.
