Video: The best runs from Thursday at the 2024 Festival of Speed

Before we get underway for a day of Hill action, it’s the done thing to look back at the best action from the day before. And Thursday, the opening day of the 2024 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, delivered in tyre-smoking, flame-spitting spades.

Of course, The Duke of Richmond opened the Hill, driving his grandfather’s Double 12-winning MG in a nice smooth, slow, run, before our entrants got to bringing the chaos. And chaotic is just the word for the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak run, where the car slithered and snaked all the way up the Hill, even drifting Molecomb.

We had everything from Alex Albon driving a classic Williams, to James Deane committing the rear tyres of his ‘Eurofighter’ BMW to the atmosphere. We had the McMurtry Spéirling Pure putting its fastest foot forward too which is quite exciting, given it’s a wider, faster version of the car that holds the current Hill record… From Lancia and Toyota Rally cars slithering their way around, to a screaming V10 Williams from the mid-2000s, to the new musclebound Aston Martin Valiant making its debut, Thursday was packed with action. And we’re only just getting started.
