Video: Nick Heidfeld’s amazing 41.6 second hillclimb record

We’ve mentioned Nick Heidfeld’s record-setting 1999 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard hillclimb run on numerous occasions, but we’re yet to post it here, on its own, in its entirety. So here it is.

At the wheel of Mika Häkkinen’s championship winning McLaren MP4-13, Heidfeld cracked a 41.6 second time. When interviewed post-run and told he’d set the fastest time ever he simply said: “That’s good, yeah. Lovely… I hope it’s going to last for a while that record.”

Who knew it would take 20 years and the car that would go faster would be electric
