Video: Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ makes FOS debut
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ is the car that celebrates the breaking of a barrier that many never believed could be broken. On 2nd August 2019, a Chiron Super Sport 300+ pushed past the 300mph mark (482.8km/h) in a test in Germany with Andy Wallace at the wheel, becoming the first production road car to do so. This is one of the 30 cars you can buy that could, given enough room, hit that same speed.
It’s a machine you just can’t believe exists. Over the last 70 years we’ve gone from thinking 120mph was other-worldly fast with the Jaguar XK120 to seeing cars like the McLaren F1 blast past 200mph with relative ease. But 300mph? We won’t say it’s the final frontier for road cars, but it is, quite simply, world-beating.
Only 30 of these cars will be made, all with an 8.0-litre, quad-turbo W16 engine with 1,600PS (1,176kW), 100PS (74kW) more than the regular Chiron, if you can call it ‘regular’... There’s some extra slippery bodywork, with a new tail that extends the rear by 25mm and reduces aerodynamic stall by more than 40 per cent. The new exhaust and rear diffuser set-up also generate negative lift, helping to pin the car to the ground.
