It kicks off with Dario Franchitti stretching the legs of the GMA T.50S, its high-revving V12 and fan-assisted aerodynamics bringing drama as well as speed. The next car couldn’t be more different, a luxurious Rolls-Royce Black Badge Spectre belying its size with a rapid run. Road cars continue with the debut of the Ferrari 12Cilindri, and later in the video the McLaren 720S is driven on the limit.
The big celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship was always going to make the cut, and it is two Red Bulls that make it into these highlights – Liam Lawson pedalling the RB7 and David Coulthard at the wheel of the RB8. Similarly single-make were older Grand Prix representatives from Maserati, with the T26M and the 8CTF.
If you prefer your competition cars with more than one seat, a Holden Commodore made V8 thunder while the Toyota GR DKR Hilux Evo brought ride height and suspension travel to proceedings. Jean Ragnotti pirouetted a Renault 5 Turbo up the Hill while a drifting Volvo 740 made the same route in smoky style.
As first days of Festival of Speed go, it was a good one. And the sun is forecast to keep shining for the rest of the weekend…
