The Central Feature is unveiled

Something that always stops you in your tracks at the Festival of Speed is sight of the Central Feature, the huge sculpture that rises into the skies above Goodwood House. This annual centrepiece has honoured some most famous brands in motorsport since its inception in 1997, with Ferrari being the first marque to celebrated with a Gerry Judah design. Recent years have seen the likes of MG and Gordon Murray be featured, and in 2026 the spotlight falls on Singer, the Californian brand known for its reimaginings of the Porsche 911.

This towering tribute commemorates nearly two decades of Singer’s pursuit of automotive excellence, from its earliest restorations to some of its most ambitious creations, and it will be officially unveiled for the first time on Thursday morning. It is one of those unique moments that really kicks off the event, and a dazzling reminder that the Festival of Speed is as much about spectacle and atmosphere as it is about the machines themselves.

Formula 1 Fires Up

While Formula 1 will boast a roaring presence across all four days of the Festival of Speed, Thursday sets the pace for the weekend with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly kicking off proceedings at the wheel of the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix-winning E20. Reigning Constructors’ Champions McLaren begin its four-day celebration on Thursday, too, where you’ll be able to hear the roar of its 2023 challenger, the MCL60,  when the team’s reserve driver Leonardo Fornaroli tackles the tarmac alongside a jaw-dropping fleet of heritage icons.

Everything from Ayrton Senna’s final race-winning MP4/8 and the ultra-rare Lamborghini-engined MP4/8B, to James Hunt’s legendary 1976 Championship-winning M23 will be on show, as well as runs up the Hill by Formula 1 cars from Aston Martin, Ferrari and Williams.
