Ever wanted to see Carl Fogarty spray a crowd with champagne, but weren’t around in the 1990s to see him do it after a World Superbike win? Thankfully, the 2025 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard had you covered. Perhaps literally, if you were at the front of the crowds outside Goodwood House on Friday afternoon.
In one of this year’s balcony moments, racing fans welcomed legendary racer Carl Fogarty. It’s 30 years since Fogarty, or ‘Foggy’ as he’s affectionately known, enjoyed his most dominant season in World Superbikes, taking the second of his eventual four titles. So, two-wheeled and four-wheeled motorsport lovers were out in force to give Fogarty the reception he truly deserved and celebrate his brilliant career.
Reunited with a host of his bikes over the event, Fogarty took to the Hill and the crowds parted like the Red Sea, the volume of cheers would have you believe this was actually Moses. Union Jack flags were flying, and after a perfect demonstration of champagne spraying with the fans, Foggy took to the balcony to an explosion of applause.
Representing Lancashire on the global stage, Foggy secured 59 wins, 109 podiums and 21 pole positions overall in his career, first taking victory in the World Superbike Championship in 1992 at Donington. A homegrown motorsport hero who took on the world, Carl Fogarty, we salute you.
