The Timed Shoot-Out is without doubt the most exhilarating part of the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, it’s a brief moment when the gloves come off and the drivers get just a little bit competitive in their bid to set the fastest time of the weekend.
It’s set to be another hugely competitive feature in 2025, with several experienced hands returning to give it everything on Goodwood’s famous Hillclimb. Romain Dumas took the spoils last year in the 1,400PS (1,050kW) Ford Supervan 4.2 with a final time of 43.99 seconds, and he returns this year to defend his crown.
Saturday afternoon saw the cars competing in the Timed Shoot-Out return for their second competitive session of the Festival of Speed. The Ford Supertruck was the ‘car’ to beat after setting a substantial benchmark on Friday.
This run would also see the class winners crowned for 2025, with six classes up for grabs. Romain Dumas set the quickest overall time again to claim victory in the ‘Modified Specials’ category, ahead of Scott Speed in the similarly impressive Subaru Project Midnight.
Javier Castane’s third fastest time was enough to top the class for ‘Production Road Cars’ with the Koenigsegg ‘Sadair’s Spear’, James Wallis in fourth was the winner of the ‘GT Racers’ with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, and Jake Hill’s exploits in the Holden Commodore was enough to take fifth overall and the ‘Touring Cars’ crown.
Alex Summers was guaranteed victory as the only entrant in the ‘Sportscars’ class in the Shadow DN4, and Julian Majzub put in a stirring drive to claim victory in the ‘Pre-war’ category.
All the drivers return on Sunday for the main event, when the Timed Shoot-Out Final gets underway at 15:05. If today’s showing was anything to go by, it’s going to be unmissable.

The entry list for the 2025 Festival of Speed Timed Shoot-Out will once again be split into several classes. There’s seven classes this year, the first is for front-engined, open-wheel pre-war cars, a list that features the pioneers of Formula 1 and the primitive machines that signalled the dawn of motorsport.
There’re also classes for GT racers, sportscars, modified specials, touring cars, rally cars and production road cars.
In all there will be 27 cars in this year’s Timed Shoot-Out, spanning more than a century of engineering excellence from 1907 to the present day.
The Timed Shoot-Out action begins on Friday with Timed Practice at 16:00, which will be the first chance for all the competitors to get their eye in on the Hill ahead of the first proper competitive runs.
Saturday will see the field return to battle it out for class honours at 15:55, with the fastest driver in each class declared the winner.
The main event takes place on Sunday at 15:05, with all 27 cars running again for a final time to battle for overall victory in the 2025 Festival of Speed Timed Shoot-Out.
There’s a strong list of current pro drivers preparing to take to the Hill this year. Reigning British Touring Car Champion Jake Hill will be engaging full send in his own inimitable fashion, as will Festival of Speed favourite, Travis Pastrana.
The 2024 WRC Champion Thierry Neuville will be joined by rallying stalwart Dani Sordo, and current Iron Dames star Sarah Bovy will be representing the world of sportscars alongside Le Mans legend Benoît Tréluyer and Marino Franchitti.
Scott Speed, a four-time Rallycross Champion with F1 credentials will return at the wheel of the Subaru Project Midnight to try and take the title away from Romain Dumas.
